Joy
Hello GenZ, how are you all? Hope you’ve had a lovely half term break and had time to rest, maybe you’ve learnt a new skill or even caught up on some new TV shows.
This week’s topic is JOYYYYY!!!!!! At times like this, sometimes it can be difficult to be joyful or for others, we may appreciate the little joys in our lives a bit more that we are in lockdown.
Hope you are able to think of joy in a different way at the end of looking at the following videos, questions and Bible verses.

Lots of love,

Nehemie and the Gen Z Team

Watch the following video.

After watching, think about how is biblical joy different to our idea of joy and happiness?

Does this make me think of joy in a different way?

As a Christian, what would be my response if my faith was being challenged or persecuted?

Main Bible Verse

Read one of the following passages:

  • Psalm 4
  • 2 Corinthians 11: 23-29 & 12:9-10

How would you re-write one of these passages as if the author was writing a postcard? e.g.

Dear Corinthians,

I've been having the worst time lately! Listen to this… I've been shipwrecked, starved, beaten. I could go on but I won't bore you. Anyway, the important thing is that even with all this going on, God is still in me, stronger than ever and somehow I'm really happy!!!

Love, Paul.

  • Paul and David were joyful DESPITE their circumstances and BECAUSE of God.
  • In our society we are unlikely to be persecuted, invaded, shipwrecked etc… what challenges do we face today? How could we be joyful in those circumstances?

Prayer

Dear God,

Nehemiah 8:10 says ‘the joy of the Lord is my strength’. I pray for all those who at this time do not feel strong, mentally or physically, including myself. I pray that we will experience the joy of the Lord, that even in the struggles of this time, we will decide to put our faith and hope in Jesus and his promises for the future, for those who trust in him.

Amen.
